The abattoir and cutting plant Schmitz is situated in Lohne in the Oldenburger Münsterland.

August Schmitz founded the company in Essen/Oldenburg. With 10 employees 300 pigs are slaughtered and cutted per day. With two cold-storage cars customers in the circumcircle of 100 km are delivered. As the demand grows very fast the production plants get to small allready after one year.

The principal office moves to Lohne/Oldenburg. The in 1982 new built and from the EC qualified abattoir premises are rented from the company Paul Brand Qualitätsfleisch GmbH.
Together with Brand, one of North-Germanys most experienced abattoirs, a cooperation-cantract is made. The pigs delivered by orginators in a circumcircle of 50 km are slaughterd by Brand and cutted as well as exploited by Schmitz.

The cutting-premisses are expanded to more than the double capacity. New cutting-techniques are implemented the same time. The daily cutting-quantity lies at 1000 pigs with a work force of 60 employees. A new living-cattle-ramp is built. The first carbone-dioxide stunning-plant in Germany is put into operation.

Paul Brand invests 10 million DM into the construction of a new slaughterhouse. In february 1999 one of the most modern abattoir-plants is put into operation. A special steam-condensation blanching method is used in a slaughterhouse of that dimension for the first time in Germany. The pigs are not blanched anymore with hot water, but with steam surfeited air. This method is more sparing for the surface of the pig's skin and anables an indestructible skin surface with a desirable microbial count of surface. The little thermal pollution leads to considerable better meat-quality.

A new administrative building is put into operation as well as a 400 sq.m containing cleaning-hall for the internal and external purgation of the cold-storage cars.

The planning for new cold storage houses with automatic control and automatic feeding of the production line with hogs begins.

The weekly amount of slaughtered and cutted pigs lies at 8000. An expansion up to an amount of 12000 to 15000 is striven with the planned premisses. With the own motor pool and some forwarding agencies customers in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Eastern Europe are supplied on time. As well shiploads to Asian countries are part of the daily business.

With the new cold storage and the modernized abattoir the weekly amount of slaughtered and cutted pigs lies at 12000 to 15000.
